Can a student have adaptive software installed on their computer for academic use?
Yes, in some cases students can have adaptive software installed on their computer. However, due to limited license availability, all requests are granted on a first come first serve basis and are carefully evaluated. The student must also present a Jagtag and valid driver's license. The software is checked out on a semester by semester basis per our library system. At the end of the semester, the student will receive a notice of renewal or return. If the student would like to renew the software, they should contact AES via email (aes@iupui.edu) or call (317) 274-0489 to speak with a professional staff member. Students who plan to return the software must have it removed from their computers by a professional staff member located in UL 3135 H or N.How do I receive training or a demonstration of the adaptive software?
For students, staff, or faculty interested in learning more about an adaptive software package, please call (317) 274-0489 or (317) 274-3241 for an appointment with a professional software analyst. Note: due to an increase in student traffic, we are unable to schedule appointments during mid-terms and finals. How do I have my textbooks converted to an electronic format?
Because of our relationship with the IU Adaptive Technology Center in Bloomington, students who are interested may have their books converted to an electronic format. The student first is required to bring in the books he or she wants converted. After we receive the books, we send them to Bloomington for conversion into the electronic format. Keep in mind that before the Adaptive Technology Center creates the electronic text, the book is unbound and the loose pages are fed through a high speed scanner. Once the book is completely scanned, the Kurzweil and the OCR Rocket program translate the images into text which are then saved in the KES format. If needed, the student may also request the MS Word (DOC), rich text (RTF), and ASCII text (TXT) formats. Usually, the process takes up to 4 working days, but, depending on volume and proofreading, may take up to 7 working days. Upon completion of the file formats, they are burned to a CD. The CD and unbound books are sent back up to IUPUI for student pick up at the Adaptive Technology Center in IT 131 or at the Adaptive Educational Services Lab located in UL 3135 H.How do I schedule my test in the lab?
Tests are taken in the Adaptive Educational Services Adaptive Technology Center located in room UL 3135 N. However, the tests are scheduled through our main office located in Taylor Hall UC 137. Tests are not scheduled through our Technology Center. In order to properly schedule a test, the student is required to contact our office two days in advance of the test by either stopping by Taylor Hall UC 137 or calling 317-274-3241.
