Letters to Instructors

There may be times when a student with a disability feels unable to discuss their needs with professors or other university staff. Even though the student knows what type of help is needed from professors, communicating that need may be difficult for one reason or another. For students who request it, AES can communicate with professors and instructors on behalf of the student.

With confidential email, letters, or phone calls, AES can help open-up the lines of communication between student and faculty.

Please remember: Notifying professors is not something automatically provided for you each semester that you get accommodations. If you would like us to communicate with professors on your behalf, simply contact our office and make that request.

At AES, we feel it's important to provide the most appropriate level of coaching and guidance to foster student growth. In other words, we feel students may need more attention and assistance early in their college experience or with a newly diagnosed disability. But, as students gain experience and skills while attending IUPUI, the less they should need to rely on our assistance. We think it's important that students be able to learn how to advocate for themselves and obtain their own goals, using their own growing skills, knowledge, and confidence.
