Visions of Victory Photo Exhibit
Photography and sports have evolved hand-in-hand for more than 100 years. The idea of stopping time — glimpsing motion itself in its infinite forms — applies equally to viewing athletics and to creating photographic images. The two worlds, those of the athlete and the photographer, have developed simultaneously in separate but overlapping universes, from a relatively primitive to an ever more sophisticated state.
The powerful images in this exhibition were initially organized for presentation at the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games in Atlanta — a tribute to the 100-year celebration of both the games and of sports photography. Of the 147 images originally gathered from around the world to create this exhibition, eight are housed at the IUPUI Campus Center. The images can be found on the walls of the Tower Stairwell, located in the south-east corner of the building.
All images are from Visions of Victory: A Century of Sports Photography publication published by Pindar Press, NY, NY, 1996.
