Substance Abuse Assessment

Substance abuse and dependence can significantly interfere with academic performance and completion of basic daily tasks.

IUPUI CAPS does not perform court-ordered assessment or mandated treatment for substance abuse issues.

IUPUI CAPS does offer substance abuse assessment and psychoeducational services for students referred by the Dean of Students Office or other campus unit (e.g., Housing and Residence Life, Athletics).

Substance abuse assessment and referral services are also available for students who wish to determine the severity of their substance abuse issue and receive recommendations and referrals for treatment.

Formal substance abuse assessments typically involve 3-4 meetings with a counselor and one session in which paper and pencil questionnaires are completed. The cost of a formal substance abuse assessment is $100.

Some substance abuse issues can be addressed through individual counseling services.

Initial self-assessments for substance abuse can be found at the Self-Screening Tools and Information for Drug and Alcohol Information and Screening.
