Assessment for Learning, Attention, and Developmental Disorders

Staff psychologists at CAPS provide assessment services for Learning (LD) and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity (ADHD) Disorders, as well as some developmental disorders (Asperger's Syndrome, High Functioning Autism).

Learning disorders include specific difficulties in writing, reading, oral language, or mathematics. ADHD may be characterized by difficulties with focus and concentration, a high level of distractibility, hyperactivity, or impulsivity. Developmental disorders often make it difficult for individuals to understand social cues, think abstractly, and manage multiple tasks. Any of these disorders may interfere with an individual's ability to achieve in academic, work, and social environments.

Evaluation for LD, ADHD, or other such disorders begins with an initial interview with a staff psychologist. Information will be requested regarding academic, psychological, medical, developmental, and family histories. This evaluation interview is free of charge, although a $15 initial fee is charged for students not currently engaged in CAPS services. At the conclusion of the interview, a recommendation will be made regarding further assessment.

Further evaluation for ADHD involves 1-2 hours of testing at a fee of $250. Additional information on ADHD can be found at:

Further evaluation for LD involves 3-6 hours of testing at a fee of $400. Additional information on learning disorders can be found at:

Evaluation of developmental and other learning related disorders will likely involve 3-6 hours of additional testing. The specific fees may vary, but will not exceed $500. Additional information on Asperger's and autistic disorders can be found at:

Please be aware that the entire assessment process typically takes 3-5 weeks to complete, depending on service demand and the amount of testing needed. During this period, individuals will complete the initial interview and undergo testing. The evaluator will then score the tests and complete a formal written report before reviewing the results with the student. Scheduling issues may delay the process further. A 10% deposit is required before testing is initiated. Fees for assessment services must be paid in full prior to reviewing the test results.
