Civic Engagement

Civic engagement is defined as active collaboration that builds on the resources, skills, expertise, and knowledge of the campus and community to improve the quality of life in communities in a manner consistent with the campus mission. (IUPUI Center for Service and Learning).

Examples of civic engagement experiences can include:

  • Volunteer service at a non-profit agency
  • Participation in a service learning course
  • Contribution of voluntary work on a political campaign
  • Advocacy on specific social issues
  • Involvement with a faculty member on a community-based research project
  • Employment in a community work-study position

Green Generation Fair

Join your friends for the first-ever IUPUI Go Green Fair! The event will be a collaboration of green suppliers, organizations, speakers, workshops and events brought together to encourage you to think about sustainability on and off campus.

What is Democracy?

From October 27th – November 7th, 2008, prior and during the US elections, Democracy Plaza sponsored the "Writing on the Wall" art project . Artist Joe LaMantia built six large blank canvases at the IUPUI Campus Center and asked students to document their responses to the simple question, "What is democracy?" In this video, the artist comments on his motivations and perspectives on the project.
