The Culture and Society Community of Practice aims to integrate cultural and social understanding into curricular and co-curricular activities on the IUPUI campus. In addition to continuing our communities’ role as a central resource for issues involving diverse cultures and societies, this year we will turn to curriculum integration as we link with the newly formed community focusing on multicultural learning. Therefore, if you are interested in the teaching and learning of cultural and social issues, diversity, multiculturalism, and global competency, please consider attending one of our monthly meetings.

The GAC is advisory to the administration on any issues relating to graduate education. In addition, it is the body that approves both new graduate programs (committee of the whole) and graduate courses (curriculum subcommittee). The impetus for this committee was to develop a policy that would ensure food safety on campus for any type of food event, but especially food fundraisers and to regulate the number of food fundraisers to conform with BOH rules as well as eliminate the need for these groups to collect/pay sales tax or obtain a special catering permit. Another goal is to reach out to the campus community to provide information, feedback and program initiatives. We meet quarterly (next 3 meetings are 9/25, 11/20 and 2/19/09 all at 9:00 a.m. in Room 219 Conference Center. Student Life has always been represented by two or more members (assuming information would filter to student groups and Student Life selects the fundraising dates each semester); USG officers have also always been members; this year we added GSO president and will continue to have graduate representation.

This is a working committee, not necessarily a meeting committee. When we meet, we are meeting with appellants (one appellant at a time) to discuss their appeals and this is a closed meeting. We review appeals and decide whether or not the parking rules/regulations were violated and whether or not the Parking Service Enforcement Officers did their jobs properly. There is a two step process in the appeals process. First the appellant writes a written appeal and committee members read these on their own time. Once three like decisions are reached then Parking Services sends out a letter on our behalf announcing our decision. Next, if we denied their appeal, they may then meet with the Parking Appeals Committee to further explain their position – this is the only time the committee comes together.
