How do I apply for housing?

Individuals providing contact information via our website or by filling out a contact form will receive all updated information by US mail or through website access. For more information, click on Applying for Housing.

What is IUPUI's housing application deadline?

IUPUI does not have a specific deadline, however, as all assignments are done on a first come, first serve basis it is recommended that you apply early. Please note that you are NOT required to be an admitted IUPUI student in order to apply for housing. Assignments are made based on the date of application and application fee payment. What are the room costs for a year?

Rates are determined based on which Campus Housing option you choose. For more information regarding rates, click on Housing Rates.

What size are the rooms?

Depending on your choice of Campus Housing, room sizes may vary. For more specific information, click on Housing Rates.

What is provided in the rooms? (i.e. furniture, air conditioning, telephone, etc.)

The various Campus Housing options offer different amenities. Campus Apartments and Townhomes are fully furnished. Ball Hall rooms include a bed, desk, closet and dresser. For more information, click on Housing Options.

How are housing assignments made?

Based on the information provided on the application, the Contracts and Assignment Office will try to match you as closely as possible with another student with regard to age and gender, and if possible, academic program. If you have a specific concern or roommate request, please note it on your application. Since everyone is not compatible, room changes may be allowed only after the first three weeks of the semester based on availability of rooms.

Can I request a specific roommate?

You have the option of requesting a roommate(s). All roommate requests must be mutually agreed upon in order to be honored. Roommate(s) other than a spouse/partner must be an IUPUI affiliate. Should you not specify a roommate, one will be assigned.

How safe are the residence hall/apartments/town homes?

Ball Hall has 24-hour video surveillance. All exterior doors to Ball Hall and the Campus Apartments on the River Walk have electronic card access systems. The IUPUI campus is patrolled by University Police who will provide campus-wide escort service upon request. For more information about campus safety, visit Safety.

How many years do students have to live on campus?

IUPUI does not require students to live on campus, nor does it limit the length of time a student may reside on campus. Ball Residence Hall is a first year exploration residential community and is restricted to incoming IUPUI freshman students only. Residents of the Campus Apartments or Townhomes may choose to live there until graduation. Residents must be enrolled full-time in classes, be in good academic standing, and making progress towards graduation.

Do you offer co-ed living in the residence hall/apartments/townhomes?

On-campus housing is co-ed. In Ball Residence Hall, floors are designated either male or female. In the apartment setting, individual units are designated either as co-ed, male or female. Co-ed apartments are available only to self-identified groups of residents. The Office of Housing and Residence Life will only provide roommate matching for single gender groups.

How many people live in each room?

The number of residents living in a room in the residence hall or in the apartment setting is limited to the number of beds in that unit with the exception of the one-bedroom apartments. One or two residents may occupy the one-bedroom units. In the Town Homes, one-bedroom town homes are limited to two residents and four in the two-bedroom town homes.

What meal plan/food options are available for campus residents?

The IUPUI Office of Housing and Residence Life does not provide meal plan options. There are several dining facilities on and around campus of which residents may take advantage. How can a room be decorated?

Residents are encouraged to personalize and decorate their room. However, residents are not allowed to make repairs or permanent alterations to their rooms (painting, remodeling, etc.). Here is a list of Packing Suggestions.

What are the apartment/hall/town home guest hours, quiet hours, and after-hours entrance policies?

Whether you choose to live in Ball Hall, the Townhomes or the Campus Apartments, you are part of a larger building community. As a community, residents should be respectful of their neighbors and the collective community's need to maintain an environment that is conducive to student success. Specific policies and procedures will vary from community to community and can be found in the Residential Handbook.

Am I allowed to bring a car if I live in campus housing?

Yes, you may bring a car if you live on campus. There are specific Campus Housing parking lots on campus. See Parking Services for additional information.

Is bicycle storage available?

Bicycle storage racks are available outside of every on-campus housing building. There are no storage spaces available inside. Residents, who choose to store their bicycles inside, must do so in their rooms/apartments.

What should I bring with me to my new campus housing?

Selecting what to bring to campus with you can be a tough decision. Here is a list of Packing Suggestions that might be helpful to you when preparing for the "big move."

Will I have access to the Internet from my campus housing?

Each room in the residence hall and every apartment bedroom and living room is equipped with a data jack for Internet connection to the IUPUI network. Dial-up service is available, however, Ethernet cards are recommended for direct access to the network. The university does not provide high speed internet service to the Townhomes, however, residents assigned to the townhomes are encouraged to provide their own high speed service.

What computer facilities are available to students living on-campus?

Don't have a computer? No problem, Ball Residence Hall has a computer lab on the 1st floor for your convenience. Additionally, a variety of computer labs are available for students throughout the campus.
