Indianapolis, IN – August 11, 2009 – For many, weekends are typically reserved for personal relaxation and errands. For 70 fraternity and sorority volunteers, this past Saturday was a time to refresh their advising skills and get ready for the new academic year.
Hosted at the Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) Campus Center, this regional training marked a unique five campus collaboration between Butler, DePauw, Indiana, IUPUI and Purdue universities. This opportunity allowed each campus to pull together resources and provide a strong event which focused on advising tips and strategies, utilizing online technologies, and a variety of hot topics.
“The Area Advisor’s Training reenergized me for the volunteer work I do with my organization,” commented Stephanie Lee who volunteers as a sorority advisor at IUPUI. “It was great to meet other volunteers, share best practice information, and learn how we can be better advisors to our students.”
The coordinating team representing each university was very pleased with the event and is currently exploring options for continuing and expanding future campus collaborations.
