The Leadership Reception presented by the Office of Student Involvement and the Undergraduate Student Government is held annually to recognize outstanding student leaders, advisors, and registered student organizations. This event is a great way to celebrate the exceptional student leadership we have at IUPUI!

Awards

Small Registered Student Organization of the Year

This award is given to recognize a registered student organization that has been a leader among the nearly 300 recognized student organizations at IUPUI. The Small Registered Student Organization of the Year award will be presented to the student organization of under twenty members which through its initiative, activities and projects, has been successful in accomplishing stated goals, serving the students it was designed to serve, and has had the most significant positive influence on IUPUI and the surrounding community. To be eligible to apply, student groups must have completed all RSO requirements with the Office of Student Involvement.

Large Registered Student Organization of the Year

This award is given to recognize a registered student organization that has been a leader among the nearly 300 recognized student organizations at IUPUI. The Large Registered Student Organization of the Year award will be presented to the student organization of over twenty members which through its initiative, activities and projects, has been successful in accomplishing stated goals, serving the students it was designed to serve, and has had the most significant positive influence on IUPUI and the surrounding community. To be eligible to apply, student groups must have completed all RSO requirements with the Office of Student Involvement.

Outstanding Multicultural Program of the Year

This award recognizes a student-driven diversity/multicultural program that was held in the past academic year. The program was produced by a registered student organization and was dedicated to building positive interaction amongst cultures; promoted awareness of cultures and global issues through student engagement; and provided opportunities for students to learn about the importance of diversity and multiculturalism. Resources (people, time, funds, materials, etc.) were utilized effectively in the development and implementation of the program. The program was widely publicized. The primary producers of the program were students. This program could be a series event, or occur one time. To be eligible to apply, student groups must have completed all RSO requirements with the Office of Student Involvement.

Outstanding Educational Program of the Year

This award recognizes a student-driven academic/educational program that was held in the past academic year. The program was produced by a registered student organization and was dedicated to educating students on a topic or discipline; and promoted awareness of and learning about an academic or educational area. The program encouraged dialogue among individuals. Resources (people, time, funds, materials, etc.) were utilized effectively in the development and implementation of the program. The program was widely publicized. The primary producers of the program were students. This program could be a series event, or occur one time. To be eligible to apply, student groups must have completed all RSO requirements with the Office of Student Involvement.

Outstanding Entertainment Program of the Year

This award recognizes a student-driven social/entertainment program that was held in the past academic year. The program was produced by a registered student organization, geared towards student interests, and provided social opportunities for students to interact in a fun and safe environment. The program was widely publicized. This program could be a series event, or occur one time. The primary producers of the program were students. To be eligible to apply, student groups must have completed all RSO requirements with the Office of Student Involvement.

The Rising Star Award

This award is to recognize an IUPUI student that always goes above and beyond what is asked of them. They attend participate in many leadership activities on campus, but are not in a formal leadership role such as an officer of an organization. This award seeks to recognize a student of such values and who has demonstrated unfailing dedication to the goals and endeavors of the groups they participate in.

William L. Garrett Award

These awards are given in the spirit in which Mr. Garrett would have approved. They seek to present the three most deserving students who in a year have demonstrated exceptional leadership and service to IUPUI. Those awarded are not necessarily only strong in one area, but rather are well rounded and involved in a variety of interests to which they devote their time.

Advisor of the Year

This award is to recognize an advisor of a student organization or a student council. The advisor has been there whenever the group has needed him or her and has always been there to give advice to the students. He or she also serves as not only an advisor but also as a mentor for the students, helping them grow from mistakes and triumphs and fostering their leadership skills for the future.

IUPUI Heart of Philanthropy Award

One of the most rewarding activities a student can experience during their time as a member of a university community is that of giving to others and making a difference for the community. The Heart of Philanthropy Award seeks to recognize the student or registered student organization who gave of self and became richer from the experience. The individual or organization should exemplify the dedication and financial contributions directed towards the benefit of the community. Nominations should be supported by the agency being benefited.

Anna Melodia Building Community Award

Anna Melodia served as the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Student Life and Diversity and Director of Student Life and Diversity Programs until the spring of 2000. Through her service, Anna propagated the ideas of linking IUPUI students with each other and the Indianapolis community. Anna wholeheartedly believes that the more successful we are in building a spirit of community at IUPUI, the students will grow to be more successful.

The recipient of this award is a student or registered student organization through their service to IUPUI embodies the essence of community building at IUPUI and the Indianapolis Community. The individual or organization will have demonstrated the commitment to community service. Nominations should be support by the agency being benefited.

USG Student Organization of the Year

This award is to recognize a student organization that has been a part of Undergraduate Student Government. The award is to recognize a student organization that has been active in a variety of ways. Not only through events and meetings, but also has accomplished the goals they set for themselves. The organization has also had a positive impact on Undergraduate Student Government. To be eligible the organization must have a senator and be recognized via the USG Affidavit of Recognition.

USG Student Council of the Year

This award is to recognize a student council that has been a part of Undergraduate Student Government. The award is to recognize a council that has been active in not only events, but also advocating for the students of their school. The council has also had a positive impact not only on their students, but also IUPUI and Undergraduate Student Government. To be eligible the council must have a senator and be recognized via the USG Affidavit of Recognition.

USG Senator of the Year

This award is to recognize a senator from either a student organization or a student council. The senator should have been an active member within Undergraduate Student Government. They played a role within their committee and at time went above and beyond what was asked of them. Their role in Undergraduate Student Government has had a positive impact on the group. To be eligible the senator must be recognized via USG Affidavit of Recognition.

USG Committee of the Year

This award is to recognize one of the six committees housed within Undergraduate Student Government. The committee should have been active throughout the year and their efforts have provided a positive impact for students of IUPUI and Undergraduate Student Government.

USG Administrator of the Year

This award is to recognize an administrator of IUPUI who has been an extraordinary advocate for students of IUPUI. They have always been open to listening when students have complaints and are one of the first people to take action when students are in need.
