Chad provides overall direction and guidance to the areas and staff that comprise the Office of Student Involvement. While this includes monitoring and improving operations within the office, much of his work includes establishing and maintaining partnerships with collaborators across IUPUI to ensure the best student experience possible.

Kristin Bentrem

Graduate Research Assistant

Kristin is a Ph.D. student in Indiana University’s Higher Education program with a minor in Leadership Studies. She holds a dual Graduate Research Assistantship with the Technology Leadership Communication Program within Purdue University’s School of Engineering and Technology and with the Division of Student Life at IUPUI. She also is a lecturer for the Organizational Leadership Program at IUPUI. Her primary research interests lie in the areas where higher education, leadership, and student life intersect. Her research has focused on topics including mentoring, leadership, experiential learning and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) a as they relate to student engagement, satisfaction, gains in learning, and retention.



Sophie Blanco


Sophie Blanco

Assistant Director for Social Justice Education

Sophie coordinates the Cultural Heritage Months, facilitates various workshops and trainings, and plans large-scale and small-scale events. She collaborates with campus and community partners to infuse social justice education into current and new campus events. Sophie also finds ways to support students, staff, and faculty in engaging in difficult conversations around social identities as well as dynamics of power, privilege, and oppression. Sophie helps make social justice concepts accessible so everyone can work together to live in a more inclusive world.

Graduate Assistant for Fraternity & Sorority Life

Ernest is the Graduate Assistant for Fraternity and Sorority Life at IUPUI. He assists with the advising and facilitating of all programming for the community. This includes Weeks of Welcome and specific council programming. He also assists in advising the Interfraternity Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council and Panhellenic Council. He works alongside the Assistant Director of the community to make sure that the students have a great experience as members of the Greek community here at IUPUI.

Coordinator for Community Service & Civic Engagement

Jen and the Community Service and Civic Engagement staff work to connect students, faculty and staff with meaningful community service programs both on- and off-campus. She helps coordinate over 40 campus-wide days of service each year and oversees several scholarship programs under the Sam H. Jones Service Scholarship. There are many opportunities for you to connect with IUPUI, Indianapolis and communities beyond through community service. Graduate Assistant for Community Service

Katy, the Graduate Assistant for Community Service, completed her undergraduate degree at Butler University where she majored in Psychology and Spanish. After graduation, Katy spent a year and a half with Indiana Campus Compact (ICC) as an AmeriCorps VISTA. Following her time with ICC, she interned with Break Away: The Alternative Break Connection as a trainer for alternative break programs across the country. Katy is an avid supporter of community service programs and is proud to advise the Community Service Scholars in the Sam H. Jones Service Scholarship. Katy is currently earning her Masters in Higher Education and Student Affairs and will graduate in May 2013

Business Manager

Tho manages OSI budgets and oversees USG, SAPB, SDFC funds. He assist student organizations by disbursing approved SOG and EEG allocations and answering questions about IUPUI purchasing, accounting, travel policies.



Matt McKay


Matt McKay

Assistant Director for Student Activities

Matt oversees the student activities area, which includes supporting student organization development and the Student Activities Programming Board. He provides resources for 350+ student organizations in dynamic ways, including Nuts & Bolts sessions, providing resources for advisors, and many more! He also advises the Leadership Consultants on campus, which help implement the SOLD (Student Organization Leadership Development) program for student organizations. If you are interested in joining a student organization or starting your own, Matt will assist you in any way he can.

Juhanna assists with coordinating the Cultural Heritage Months, co-facilitates various workshops, focus groups, and trainings, as well as helps plan large-scale and small-scale events. She assists Sophie with collaborating with campus and community partners to infuse social justice education into current and new campus events.

Associate Director

Diana provides direction for the Lead IUPUI program and supervises Student Activities, which includes student organizations and the Student Activities Programming Board and Fraternity and Sorority Life. Diana also coordinates professional development for all OSI staff. There are wonderful ways to get involved with OSI, whether you want to attend a short workshop or social event or want an expanded experience through attending a retreat or starting or joining an organization. Diana will work with you to create a unique leadership experience that will enhance your career at IUPUI—while having fun and learning some important skills you will use long after you have graduated.

Assistant Director for Fraternity & Sorority Life

Alex advises and facilitates all programming for the fraternity and sorority life community at IUPUI, including events during Weeks of Welcome and specific council programming. He also advises the Interfraternity Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council and Panhellenic Council. He focuses on helping men and women have a strong, values-based college Greek-letter experience that leads to a lifetime of friendship and success.

Administrative Specialist

Sherry supervises the front desk student staff and provides support for all staff in OSI. If you come to OSI with questions, chances are Sherry can answer them or introduce you to the person who can. She also assists the Student Development Funding Committee by attending meetings and answering student questions regarding the funding process.

Heidy works alongside the Coordinator and Assistant Coordinator for Student Activities to develop programming and events to develop leaders and increase student involvement at IUPUI. She also provides support to Registered Student Organizations and advises the Leadership Consultants.



Jillian Van Auken

Coordinator for Student Activities

Jillian advises the Student Activities Programming Board in the planning and implementation of events that meet the social, educational and entertainment needs of the students at IUPUI. In addition, she works with the Homecoming Committee to plan a week full of fun events during spring semester aimed at increasing spirit and pride on campus. Jillian also provides general student activities support.

Josh co-advises the CUBE council and is responsible for the management of the CUBE. Additionally, Josh assists in supporting and providing resources for 350+ student organizations on campus. If you have questions about the CUBE or student organizations, Josh will be able to help you!



Anne Weiss

Graduate Assistant for Civic Engagement

After three years of volunteering with the national service program AmeriCorps, Anne found her passion to engage citizens in creating effective, active and powerful communities. She has supplemented this passion with a Bachelor of Arts in Civic Engagement, Philanthropic Studies and Social Action obtained at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) in Indiana. In the 2011 she began the Master of Arts in Applied Communication program with a focus on deliberative, democratic communication and service-learning (specifically: critical, dialogic reflection). As a Graduate Assistant with the IUPUI Center for Service and Learning, Anne will be advising Democracy Plaza with Jarod Wilson. Anne looks forward to strengthening, enhancing and creating new opportunities for civic engagement at IUPUI and in the Indianapolis community.

Jarod works to help engage students, faculty, and staff in meaningful service activities both on and off campus. Working with both large- and small-scale service events and various parts of the Sam H. Jones Service Scholarship, he works to connect the campus to the community and helps to grow partnerships both locally and nationally.
